IUMI Webinar: (E)Vehicle fires: An emerging risk – what’s true and what isn’t
The number of new and used electric and other alternative fuel vehicles continues to grow and with it their transport on board RoRo and RoPax vessels as well as on board car carriers. Dealing with lithium-ion battery fires is a concern for all of those involved in fire engineering, including scientists and technicians developing detection and suppression systems. It also presents a significant risk to marine insurers.
Martti Simojoki, Senior Loss Prevention Manager at Alandia and IUMI Loss Prevention Committee member, and Geir Jørgensen, Senior Vice President, Global Head of Loss Prevention at Skuld, will co-host the session and share the insurance perspective on this emerging risk. They will also provide an update on the EU’s LASHFIRE Project which aims to reduce the risk of fires on board ro-ro ships.
Dr Jonna Hynynen, Research Scientist, Fire and Safety and Magnus Arvidson, Fire Protection Engineer at RISE Research Institutes will then discuss misconceptions and myths regarding battery electric vehicle fires, while highlighting the latest research and available data.
Participants will have an opportunity to submit comments and questions during the webinar. If you have any questions prior to the webinar please direct them to education@iumi.com.
